After leaving Christ Church, Darren Patten (1987) competed on the professional tennis tour reaching a career-high, world ATP ranking of 300, the Number 6 ranked player in Australia and the Number 1 ranked WA player. After his international playing career concluded, Darren coached tennis for nine years, which included coaching Casey Dellacqua for eight years and also coaching the Christ Church First Tennis Team to a Corr Cup premiership in the mid-1990s. In 2004, he moved back to his home town of Geraldton, working with his father in his wool broking business and starting a family. Moving back to Perth in 2009, Darren worked with the Clontarf Foundation briefly before he founded his own not for profit charitable organisation, the Murlpirrmarra Connection. Murlpirrmarra Connection provides educational engagement and wellbeing to Indigenous youth in Wiluna and its surrounding areas. It also implements programs for the rehabilitation of volatile substance abusive children and helps them re-engage.
