Peter Edwards’ (1961) latest book, entitled Australia and the Vietnam War, was launched by the Governor General Peter Cosgrove (pictured above left) at the Australian War Memorial in March. Peter says it is essentially the Vietnam War equivalent of CEW Bean’s book Anzac to Amiens or Gavin Long’s The Six Years War. That is, it is a one-volume account of Australia’s involvement in a war, not part of the Official History but written by Peter, the Official Historian responsible for a multi-volume Official History of that war. It is about three Southeast Asian conflicts, as it includes the Malayan Emergency and Indonesian Confrontation as well as Vietnam.
