Tommaso D’Orsogna (2007) won gold and bronze medals at the Commonwealth Games. Tommaso was a member of the Australia’s Men’s 4x100m Freestyle Relay team, which won gold in Glasgow on 25 July.
In the 100m Freestyle, Tommaso won a bronze medal after finishing third behind his Australian teammates James Magnussen and Cameron McEvoy respectively.
Tommaso celebrated with his parents and two sisters who were in Glasgow to cheer him on.
After the win, Tommaso commented on the support he received from his grandfather as a young swimmer: “It was a special night for me. I lost my grandfather, my namesake, earlier in the year, so it was unfortunate he wasn’t still around to witness my first international long-course medal. I know he will always be a part of me… I also have my Scottish heritage of the McLarty clan on my mother’s side. So this medal will always hold a special place in my heart now.”
