OBA Assembly captures then and now

More than 40 old boys from the 50 Year Club were honoured at a special Old Boys’ Assembly on Thursday morning. The 50 Year Club, old boys who left the School more than half a century ago, processed through a guard of honour formed by Year 6 students who joined the Senior School in the Chapel.
President of the Old Boys’ Association (OBA) Adam Collins referenced some of the differences and similarities between Christ Church in the 1950s and the School today, and explained the role of the OBA to the boys. Four of the guests were then asked to stand while Prefects read aloud interesting anecdotes from their days at Christ Church and beyond.
Old boy, 1953 School Captain and former Christ Church staff member Arthur Pate gave a wonderful account of how he wrote the original School War Cry in 1953, which has metamorphosed into the Linga war cry today. The original war cry included the first lines Ulinga! Ulinga! Mulgaburra matong, the Aboriginal meaning of which is Fly! Fly! Give all and be strong.
2014 School Captain Charlie Moorman then rallied the Prefects and all boys to give the 50 Year Club a rousing rendition of today’s Linga. This was followed by a photographic slideshow of images of Christ Church 50 years ago contrasted with images from the present.
The Prep School choir, the Yahoos, performed Let Us Now Praise Famous Men, which was followed by an address by Headmaster Garth Wynne, who talked about the quality and nature of lasting relationships with classmates and teachers. The assembly concluded with members of the Christ Church Cadet Unit leading the processional out of the Chapel.
